Welcome!

Hello! My name is Jessica and I'm the author of this little blog. I'm also a Christian, a wife, and a full-time graduate student in the computational biological sciences. During the day I go to work in a science lab and in the evenings I come home to play house with my wonderful husband. In my few, precious, in-between moments I love to surf Pinterest and Polyvore, sew and blog!

I'm by no means a fashionista, but I'm always trying to learn more and develop my own style. This space, plaid w/ stripes, is a place for me to discuss modest fashion and hopefully join the community of like-minded women already sharing their knowledge on this topic!

Why blog about modest fashion? Since this is all a recent learning experience, I thought it'd be helpful for me to record my thoughts and progress toward developing a modest style in order to help others in the same position!

I hope to write more about my thoughts on what "modest" means soon. In the meanwhile, I'm so glad you stopped by! Please leave a comment so I know you've come by; I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Road Trip Love

A little more road trip love -- here's a peek at what I wore on the way back from the beach. Boyfriend jeans, striped tee, casual side braid, and Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti. I died over this colour when I first bought it, but after the coral red lip I flaunted a few days ago, I'm not overly excited about it anymore. Still, it's perfect for an everyday shot of colour!

Can you tell that I got some sun? Probably not. It's a big difference to me, though!

Roll Tide, road trip, red lips

We escaped down to the Gulf of Mexico for a week of fun in the sun. This is the outfit I wore for the day-long drive down. Here's the quick checklist of important considerations for road trip outfits: 1) they must be as comfortable as possible, with no tight waistbands, 2) they must be able to adapt to hot sun and icy A/C, and 3) I wouldn't be caught dead in my pajamas outside of the house, so they have to be presentable!

This GAP dress fits the bill perfectly, and that flash of red from the scarf and lip color was just enough to make this outfit fun. (Can you tell? I couldn't help but ham it up for the camera.) By the way, this Moon Drops lipstick in Hot Coral is amazing! The formula is wonderful and something about the smell reminds me of playing dress up with my mom's makeup when I was little. I never wear lipstick, but this single tube has converted me entirely.

Inspired by "Regular Show"

"Mordecai" from Regular Show

My husband and I have been watching Regular Show on Netflix for the last couple of days. The show is pretty funny and the two main characters, Mordecai and Rigby, are particularly ridiculous. These two everyday outfits were put together in their honour. I hope you enjoy them!

Working Hard

Working Hard

Working Hard on Polyvore

A little wear-to-work ensemble. I'm glad I have a workplace that lets me wear jeans every day of the week. That is, I'll be glad until the summer heat starts kicking in! Long pants and closed toed shoes are a requirement in my line of work.

That lipgloss is my new favourite accessory. It's Revlon's ColorBurst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti, the perfect coral-meets-orange shade for summer. If you're quick, you can pick it up at Walgreens during their buy 1, get 1 50% off sale!
